Have it my way

Emanon

Los Angeles is the most dynamic city in the world.

Where else can you find more fakes, platinum (blondes and rings), egocentric assholes, aspiring artists, sell-outs, druggies, idiots, homeless, partners of huge law firms, mexicans driving beat-up pick-ups, asian moms driving mazda mini-vans, trash, pollution in the skies, up tight yuppies and yours truly?

It seems like cliques are a necessity in life, but my best friends and lovers have never been in them. I don't believe in them. I do believe in doing something about the way you feel. I believe in never letting go. I believe in righteousness.

I believe in me.
I believe in you.
I believe in us.

I also believe I will go to the O.C. now, which is sooooooooo much better...cause everyone is the same. No marginalization for anyone...ever!

;^)

The lady of the lake

The lake glistens under your spell
And even though it's tough to tell
You will understand all that's taken place
When you see that smile on your child's face

The ocean beckons for your soul
And I told her that you would go
But still you won't, and I doubt
You'll be around to find me out

Can't you see,
it's not me
you're crying for

You don't believe
in someone like me
until I grow some more

Since you've left this wicked studio
And packed up the lies on tv and video
I seem to be alone desperate and hollow
Lying in my bed everyday just to wallow

I don't know when
This life of sin
Will cease to be real

But I can tell
It's just as well
You never made the deal

Go on now, to your better life
Towards destinations and strife
But one day you just might see
That you were always perfect to me

Jews and social circles

I don't get it. I am Catholic but I go to law school, which pretty much makes me jewish, too. This seems like a bit overdone. Not a day goes by in which I hear my group discussing jewish stuff. I mean, it's all good, discuss what you want...but jeez, isn't there anything else to talk about. I remember going to school where I was a majority and we didn't sit around everyday talking about catholic (or even christian) things. I mean there are two arguments I have heard on this:
1) Judaism is more cultural than religious in social circles
2) Many of the Jews in law school will have come from schools or communities where they were very much the minority, so now that they are the majority, they feel relived and want to flourish.

This seems right. However, I guess I never had the opportunity to experience it before and it took me aback.

Please let me know what you think.

God, why do I wait so long?

So law school...that higher eschelon of intelligence...ha!

I think law school is unbelievable...I love the theory and applications of the theory. But it is so much to memorize.

I can't believe I am here. After working for 3 years, it took awhile to get back into the grind.

I do love the kids I go to school with...they are very cool.

People in law school also seem to share my sense of humor. I wonder if this is all normal?

I never could have imagined that living alone would be so fucking lonely.

Vegetable Man in the Vegetable Van

Listening to: Beck / Que Onda Guero

Yes, yes, yes...by now everyone has heard the new Beck album...very impressive to say the least. But with cryptic lyrics and machinated beats, what does Beck really want to say? Does he want to say anything? Even if he doesn't want to say anything, he says nothing very well.

Scarecrow is great, have you heard it?

I am sure you have heard E-Pro...na-na na-na-na-na-na-na!

Laptop-gate part deux

Listening to: Missing the War / Ben Folds Five (DVD - The Complete Sessions at West 54th)

Well, I (and several others) called it...Shenanigans!

The laptop still remains at large, and the professor (stupid, stupid man) remains an idiot. Not only did the plan not work, his reputation must be dwindling by the minute.

Good luck professor, hopefully your stupidity doesn't get passed to your students. But then again, it is Berkeley...so how can you expect otherwise?

Give 'em the finger...

Listening to: Ben Folds / The Last Polka (Ben Folds Live)

Awesome...I knew it was a bunch of bs!

The problem, of course, is to deflect the damage this woman has already inflicted upon Wendy's. Millions lost, people already being laid off...too sad.

So...in order to undo this vast injustice...go eat Wendy's this weekend...it's good karma!

Because The Last Polka (see above) is one of my all time favorite songs...here is a copy of the lyrics for your enjoyment...hell, maybe just one of you will go out and buy ANY Ben Folds Five cd (I personally recommend ALL of them).

well, she crept back in the house at half past 3
shook her head to see him snoring in his sleep
"if you really loved me," she said,
"I wouldn't have to be so mean"

he's a heap of junk that pours from his top drawer
sometimes likes to spread it out around the floor
it's evidence of what he was like
he likes to remember when

(sha la la, sha la li, lo li)
the end is growing near
and we're treading water now
and holding back our tears
and the day is rising,
we're sinking
(sha la, la lo li)

in a minute it will all be coming down
and they know it now,
but no one makes a sound
such a shame to ruin this bright
lazy, sunny day

(sha la la, sha la li, lo li)
the end is growing near
and we're treading water now
and holding back our tears
and the day is rising,
we're sinking
(sha la, la lo li)

my oh my,
the cruelest lies are often told
without a word
my oh my,
the kindest truths are
often spoken,
never heard

she said,
"you've been pushing me like I was a
sore tooth"
"you can't respect me 'cause I've done
so much for you"
he said,
"well I hate that it's come to this,
but baby I was doing fine"
"how do you think
that I survived the other 25 before you?"

(sha la la, sha la li, lo li)
the end is growing near
and we're treading water now
and holding back our tears
and the day is rising,
we're sinking
(sha la, la lo li)

Now go buy the albums, damnit!
That is all...

We love you, Britney

Listening to: Neil Young / World on a String (Unplugged)

Ok, we don't. But hey, it got your attention.

These posters from NYC subway should be in a museum somewhere...

Can we start making bets on how many babies she has with K-Fed and how long this doomed relationship will last? With all these Hollywood couples going down, one would think that egomaniac celebrities shouldn't be dating/marrying each other. "There is only room in this house for one over-inflated ego." Get the hint...

If you're gonna go...

Listening to: Bob Marley / Rock Sweet Rock

Might as well have it be a party for everyone there...I hope these get much more popular in the coming years and I can have one set up for those that love me. If I do go, I want people to really have a hell of a time when it comes time to mourn. If you have seen the Irish Gypsy mourning process (c.f. Snatch) then you know what I am talking about. People are so afraid to really get into the wake/funeral...everybody should be respectful. How is it disrespectful to just let it all out and cry your eyes out (the drinking should help)? For those that follow the show, Six Feet Under dealt with this issue in the very first two episodes...

Did the new pope really swing the election?

Listening to: Louis Armstrong / Alexander's Great Ragtime Band

I don't know what to think about this...probably a waste of time anyways, since no matter how it happend (ahem!theoverwhelmingreligiousrightinthemiddleofthecountryahem!) it still leaves us with our fearless leader for four more fun-filled years of oil exploitation and spreading the seeds of democracy whether people want it or not. Sorry, off on a tangent, but wouldn't it be great if the new Pope (even if he was just a Cardinal at the time) really had that much to do with the election here in the states?

chew on that...

Laptop-gate

Listening to Time Bomb / Rancid (...And Out Come the Wolves)

Yesterday, I read (and watched a video - requires quicktime) about a Berkeley professor who threatens a student during lecture regarding the theft of his laptop. Maybe he forgot he was being taped, maybe he has huge balls, but anyone throwing around unmitigated threats like this on camera has to be a bit out of it.

Well, thanks to Rakka and Brian Prichett, we have a hilarious cartoon that pokes great fun at the situation:

Lastly, here is the link to the Fark discussion thread about how full of BS this professor is...

Shoot it in the brain

Listening to Lemon Jelly / The Staunton Lick (Lemonjelly.Ky)

If you know someone who might be a zombie or have an overwhelming fear of the undead, then this is for you. I for one, welcome our new zombie overlords.

Go buy or rent Shaun of the Dead. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Oh, as a post-scrit: If you are into reggae (specifically dance-hall reggae) then this is the website (and station) for you.
Rastah

I [heart] your free speech

Listening to: Sting / Ghost Story (off Brand New Day)
There is much to be said about this topic. Any first amendment opinion could be given in hundred-page volumes. However, I think it comes down to the word vagina itself. Wearing a button or T-shirt that says that you [heart] your vagina is fine. If it makes you think about a vagina, so be it. I doubt it is an invitation for anything, it just shows a respect for womanhood. The term [heart] does not suggest anything more than pride or respect. I also believe that wearing a button that says "I [heart] my womanhood" does not have the same meaning or impact. In addition, these girls (and guys, apparently) wish to make a statement, so let them make it. I think if adults over twice the age of the girls in question cannot handle the word vagina, maybe they aren't adult enought to work in positions that set examples for kids.

[Update]
Ironically after I posted this, I ended up reading about this new venture...when did I turn into such a feminist?

The power of Zaba

Listening to: Counting Crows / Hard Candy

This is creepy. While thankfully the site did not come up my current address or phone number, I checked other people out and it was spot on. It used a few addressed that only I lived at for my parents (which means it is flawed) but if you were ever looking for someone...here is a good start. This also troubles a lot of people that might not want others to have access to this information.

Oh, and I start law school at Loyola Law School in August. Woo hoo!
